Armenian Localization for Plone

by admin_jr last modified 2003-11-06 15:14

Plone

Plone l10n is a standalone effort, intended to provide a Plone localization for Armenian. The goal is to provide an Armenian-language interface to Plone, enabling a larger Armenian-speaking community to build Plone-powered sites. Popularizing Plone and lowering entry barriers to context management for Armenian speakers are causes we take to heart!

Plone Armenian l10n is registered on plone.org. Everyone's input is welcome!

Visit the Plone Armenian l10n Testing Site which demonstrates our current experimental Armenian localization.

There is a file (plone.pot) that lists all the message strings used by the Plone interface (e.g., those log in and upload contents strings that you see all the time). Plone l10n consists of three main steps:

  1. Editing that file (in Unicode). This is a non-trivial, laborious task: quality translation requires familiarity with Plone, and then, there are lots of message strings to work through.
  2. Making sure the translation is well phrased and typo-free.
  3. Testing the implementation out for a while (eating our own cooking... sigh!), and incorporating fixes.

We maintain a PloneI18nWiki, where one can monitor current progress (and where the work is done!)
